Functies en voorzorgsmaatregelen
AFib wordt geassocieerd met een 5x groter risico op een beroerte en hartfalen, dus het is belangrijk om dit vroegtijdig te detecteren en de behandeling zo spoedig mogelijk te beginnen.
Helaas is het mogelijk dat AFib geen symptomen vertoont en soms niet aanwezig is tijdens doktersbezoeken omdat de episodes komen en gaan, wat betekent dat de aandoening vaak onopgemerkt blijft.
Aangezien de complicaties van AFib ernstig kunnen zijn, is het belangrijk dat degenen die een risico lopen routinematig een elektrocardiogram (ECG) maken, in lijn met actuele medische richtlijnen.
